One step out of the box: Ryan

The Oates family has made it a point to be a little more adventurous this year and to connect more with current friends and family that we may not always get to spend enough time with due to life getting in the way. In the internet age, a way of accomplishing both of these was starting a blog. What better way to keep in contact with friends and family members while sharing fun and exciting things that are going on in our lives.

We as a family, have decided to focus on stepping out of the box this new year (2010) and begin to make changes that will lead to us owning our life for once. Life can so easily overtake ones passions, commitments, and enjoyments and can sometimes feel like life is living us. So many things in life require our time and our attention on their own time schedule that life leaves us very little choices and very little time to live our own life. I want you think about this for just a minute. How much time do you have to live your life after taking away time for work/career, sleep, commuting, meetings, school, and the many other daily stresses of life. My personal daily time that I have ranges from 5 to 7 hours a day. That means I get to live approximately 20 to 25 percent of my life, while the other 75 percent involves life living me.

One of the most important things that we have decided to do to help with this is to first focus on the 20 percent of the life that we are able to live and make it the most enjoyable time we can. After all, with only 5 hours a day to live, not living them fully would be a mistake I am not willing to make. As for growing that percentage to where we can live the majority of our lives, well, that will be have to be for a later post.

Choose to fully live the life you have, even if it is only a small percentage.
